Social Media Strategy
Following the roll out of Web 2.0 and multi media functionality, there has been an explosion in social media which is more widely known as social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and YouTube.
The practice of blogging and participating in forums which is a form of social networking is now an accepted tool of the web and is used by many internet users on a daily basis to impart information and discover new information.
What does this mean for Search Engines?
During the early part of 2007, Google, launched Universal Search in the US which combined video results, podcasts, blog results, forum results and map information in its listings. In addition, Google promoted its Google News and Google Blogs in an attempt to respond to the growing number of users participating in this new media. Although it remains to be seen, whether Google and other search engines will fully incorporate new media results into their search engine results for the long term, it is clear that social media attracts vast amounts of traffic and can in some cases generate external links to websites, which indirectly helps the link building strategy.
